Senegal trail Angola at half-time in 2027 World Cup qualifier

Senegal must overturn a three-point half-time deficit against Angola as they chase their first win in this qualifying window.

Senegal must recover from a narrow half-time deficit against Angola to keep their first victory of this 2027 World Cup qualifying window within reach. The Lions are playing their second game of the window at Dakar Arena, where the African champions have taken control before the interval.

Angola leads 46-43 after two quarters. Senegal started with greater aggression and stayed close during the opening period, but Angola edged the first quarter 20-18. Selton Miguel’s three-pointer put Angola four points ahead at 11-7, before Mouhamadou Gueye answered from long range for Senegal.

The hosts opened the second quarter with a 6-0 run after Jean-Jacques Boissy entered the game. Boissy immediately added four points from the free-throw line, while Pape Moustapha Diop’s three-pointer helped Senegal draw level at 38-38. Angola then regained the advantage in the closing minutes as Senegal’s foul trouble sent the visitors to the line.

Senegal remained within reach when Boissy hit another three-pointer late in the quarter, reducing the gap to three points. The Lions now need a stronger second half to avoid another setback in the window and turn their pressure into the win they are still seeking.
