Stade Léopold-Senghor available for Senegalese clubs

Diambars and Teungueth FC will host their African club ties at Stade Léopold-Senghor this weekend.

Stade Léopold-Senghor will host the home legs of Senegal’s representatives in African club competitions this weekend, removing uncertainty over the venue. Diambars and Teungueth FC will therefore not need to move their matches away from Senegal’s capital.

Diambars are scheduled to receive Tunisia’s Espérance sportive de Zarzis in the Confederation Cup on Saturday 12 September. Teungueth FC will welcome FC Canchungo of Guinea-Bissau in the Champions League on Sunday. Both fixtures are set to take place at Léopold-Senghor.

The confirmation also ends speculation that the stadium might be unavailable and that the Senegalese clubs would have to relocate their home matches. Attention now turns to the condition of the playing surface as the two teams prepare for important continental fixtures.

An intensified maintenance programme has been running at the stadium since 24 August. The work is being technically supervised and checked every day, with the stated aim of meeting CAF’s international playing-field requirements. The venue’s availability gives Diambars and Teungueth FC the benefit of playing their return fixtures at home, as originally planned.
