Trinity Rodman faces US Open final scheduling dilemma

Trinity Rodman may have to choose between supporting Ben Shelton in his first Grand Slam final and playing for Washington Spirit, with the two fixtures scheduled simultaneously. The US football star has attended Shelton’s matches throughout the US Open, but her club commitments now threaten to keep her away from the tournament’s decisive match.

Shelton is due to face Alexander Zverev on Sunday at 2pm in New York, while Washington Spirit are scheduled to host Boston in an NWSL match at 1pm. Rodman therefore has two sporting engagements in the same window, leaving her presence at Flushing Meadows uncertain.

The 24-year-old has remained in New York for Shelton’s run despite her own football schedule. After Shelton’s victory over Carlos Alcaraz finished at 3:30am, in the latest-ending match in US Open history, Rodman still trained with Washington Spirit the following morning.

Rodman, daughter of former Chicago Bulls basketball star Dennis Rodman, is a leading figure in American football. She has 57 appearances and 13 goals for the United States, as well as an Olympic title from the Paris Games. Her final choice remains unresolved as the two matches approach.
