UBB keep Marko Gazzotti before Toulouse clash

Union Bordeaux-Bègles have kept Marko Gazzotti at the club through 2029, securing a player who had attracted interest from Toulouse before their Top 14 meeting on Sunday. The extension strengthens UBB’s plans around the 21-year-old France international, who has won four caps.

Gazzotti’s renewal follows new deals for Louis Bielle-Biarrey and Pierre Bochaton. Together, the agreements keep three players at Bordeaux-Bègles and underline the club’s intention to preserve its core despite the restrictions imposed by the salary cap. Gazzotti’s contract was not guaranteed, as his growing status raised questions about whether his academy club could meet his demands.

The announcement comes after UBB opened the Top 14 with a 64-5 victory over Racing and before the second-round contest against Toulouse. Bordeaux-Bègles are also the reigning double European champions, giving the new contract added significance as they seek to retain important young talent.

Toulouse had been among the clubs interested in Gazzotti, who is viewed as a possible future France starting No. 8. Their squad is also dealing with major departures, including Thomas Ramos and François Cros, while the futures of Emmanuel Meafou and Anthony Jelonch remain uncertain. Gazzotti’s decision therefore gives UBB a clear advantage in retaining one of the players linked with Toulouse.
