Victor Wembanyama frustrated by Doncic's absence

Victor Wembanyama will lead France into Thursday’s meeting with Slovenia disappointed that Luka Doncic will not be on the opposing team. The France captain said the competitive appeal of the fixture is reduced by missing the chance to face one of the game’s leading players, although he expects further opportunities to meet him.

The match is part of the second round of qualification for the 2027 World Cup. France are top of Group L and face Slovenia in Paris on Thursday at 20:30 before travelling to Sweden for Sunday’s game at 17:30. The two fixtures are the next stage of a campaign in which Wembanyama is available after his standout season with the San Antonio Spurs.
