Vincent Roberti takes interim 2030 Olympic chief role

Vincent Roberti has taken charge of the organising committee for the 2030 Winter Olympics and Paralympics on an interim basis. His appointment provides a temporary answer to the leadership crisis that followed Edgar Grospiron’s resignation last week and is intended to keep the committee’s work moving while a permanent president is found.

Roberti, 59, was previously the committee’s director general and will retain that position alongside the presidency. No replacement director general is planned for now. The arrangement also rules out the leadership tandem that had been considered after Grospiron’s departure.

An extraordinary general meeting approved changes to the organisation’s statutes before promoting Roberti to the interim post. The decision followed several months of tension within the committee’s governance. Grospiron, the former Olympic mogul skiing champion, stepped down after concluding that continuing in the role was no longer the right option.

Roberti’s mandate will therefore be one of continuity rather than a permanent succession. The committee must still appoint a new president, while its interim leader handles both its executive management and presidential duties in the meantime.
