Yann M’Vila joins Karembeu’s Sanremese project

Yann M’Vila has signed a three-year contract with Sanremese, the Serie D club pursuing promotion under Christian Karembeu.

Yann M’Vila has joined Sanremese Calcio on a three-year contract, giving Christian Karembeu’s Italian project an experienced international midfielder. The move provides the 36-year-old Frenchman with a new challenge after his departure from SM Caen.

Sanremese, based in Sanremo, competes in Serie D, the fourth level of Italian football. The club confirmed M’Vila’s arrival on Saturday, August 22. He has earned 22 caps for France and began the latest stage of his career after spells that included Stade Rennais and Caen.

The transfer also represents a return to Italy for M’Vila. He previously played for Inter Milan during the 2014-15 season, and now returns to the country in a leadership role within a lower-league promotion project. His experience at international and top-flight level is expected to strengthen Sanremese’s bid to reach Serie C.

Karembeu is among the people who recently took control of Sanremese and has described M’Vila’s arrival as significant for the club’s ambitions. The squad also includes Oan Djorkaeff, son of former France international Youri Djorkaeff. M’Vila will therefore join a team combining an established French name with a stated objective of moving up from Serie D.
