Aigles de la Médina seek final place against Bolonta

The Senegalese champions face Guinea’s AS Bolonta on Thursday for a place in the UFOA-A qualifying final.

The Aigles de la Médina are 90 minutes from another final in the CAF Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament for the UFOA-A zone. The Senegalese champions meet Guinea’s AS Bolonta on Thursday, with a win taking them into the match that will decide the region’s sole representative in the next phase of the competition.

The semi-final is scheduled for 18:00 at Independence Stadium in Bakau, The Gambia. The Aigles reached this stage after recovering from an opening defeat to Mali’s USFAS. They lost that match 1-0, then responded with a 1-0 victory over Liberia’s Determine Girls. Aïssatou Fall scored the decisive goal, giving the Senegalese club the result needed to continue its campaign.

Bolonta now stands between the Aigles and a return to the final. The Senegalese side will need more control and greater efficiency than it showed in the earlier phase if it is to progress. The prize is significant: only the tournament winner from the UFOA-A zone will advance to the next stage of the CAF competition.

The fixture also brings a chance to go further than last season. The Aigles reached the final in the previous edition but were beaten 1-0 at home by USFAS. That defeat came after the Malian club had already overcome them in this year’s campaign, making Thursday’s semi-final another important test for a team seeking to finish the job this time.
