Aliou Cissé calls Egypt match vital for Angola

Aliou Cissé has placed Angola’s meeting with Egypt among the decisive fixtures in their CAN 2027 qualifying group. The coach said the game should be treated as a new chapter, separate from earlier meetings between the two national teams, underlining its importance to Angola’s campaign.

Cissé acknowledged that some players will be unavailable because of family matters, but said the squad still has significant quality and several strengths. He also noted that a number of Angolan players have experience of Egyptian football, while admitting he would have preferred not to face Egypt as the group’s opening opponent.

The Angola coach highlighted Egypt’s experience and the quality of players including Mohamed Salah, Omar Marmoush and Hamza. He said his squad already understands the level of the Pharaohs, whose performances at the last World Cup have reinforced their reputation. Cissé also praised Egypt coach Hossam Hassan and the mark he has made with the national team.

Cissé revealed that he had spoken with Mabululu while the player was travelling to Egypt about a possible future ambition to coach an Egyptian side. The Angolan coach said he had received offers in the past but chose instead to lead the Angolan national team.
