Amadou Sene backs Senegal in 2026 Algeria test
Amadou Sene says Senegal's emerging side can overcome Algeria and reach the African volleyball quarter-finals.
Senegal will rely on an emerging generation when it meets Algeria in the 2026 African Women’s Volleyball Championship round of 16. Federation president Amadou Sene believes the team has enough ability to challenge an Algerian side with greater experience and a strong record, while keeping the wider priority on developing the national team.
The match is scheduled for Saturday, 29 August, at 16:00 in Nairobi. Senegal reached the knockout stage after losing to Egypt and Uganda in the group phase, then ending that campaign with a victory over Burkina Faso. That final win secured qualification and gives the team a chance to move into the quarter-finals.
Sene considers the teams familiar opponents and noted that earlier meetings have generally favoured Senegal. He also framed the tie as an important opportunity for the players to gain experience and establish clearer foundations for future objectives, alongside the immediate ambition of advancing in the tournament.
Senegal’s technical staff have reviewed video of Algeria’s previous matches ahead of the encounter. The squad has maintained a positive outlook, with Sene expressing confidence in the players as they attempt to extend their campaign against an opponent accustomed to major African competitions.
