Antoine Griezmann scores first Orlando City brace

Antoine Griezmann struck twice as Orlando City beat Real Salt Lake 2-1, marking his strongest MLS display yet.

Antoine Griezmann’s adaptation to Major League Soccer took a decisive step forward as his first Orlando City brace delivered a 2-1 victory over Real Salt Lake. The performance gives the 35-year-old French forward an early defining moment since moving to the Florida club from Atlético de Madrid.

Griezmann opened his account after the interval by reacting quickest to a save from the Real Salt Lake goalkeeper. His second goal arrived later in the match, when he used his right foot to place the ball into the corner after a favourable deflection during a counterattack. The finish put Orlando ahead with 10 minutes remaining.

The result came in MLS’s 21st round and underlined the player’s improving influence in his new team. His first eight appearances for Orlando had already brought two goals and two assists, but the brace represented his clearest match-winning contribution so far. It also showed the Frenchman becoming more settled after leaving the highest level of European football.

Griezmann had chosen Orlando for the final stage of his career after years with Atlético, including spells at Barcelona. His start in the United States is now gaining momentum, with his latest display providing Orlando with a prominent attacking leader and a valuable league victory.
