AS Saint-Etienne close to €7.5m N’Guessan transfer

AS Saint-Etienne are set to secure a major transfer fee for Djylian N’Guessan, with an agreement reached for the 18-year-old forward to join Liverpool. The move is not complete, however, as a further loan arrangement must be found before it can be confirmed. N’Guessan is currently undergoing his medical examination.

The France Under-20 international is expected to bring €7.5 million to Saint-Etienne, his formative club. Liverpool are understood to rate his potential at a level comparable with Hugo Ekitike. The English club’s international-loan quota has already been filled, creating the obstacle to the transfer’s completion.

N’Guessan would need to spend time with a Ligue 1 club through 2027. That pathway is also important for his work-permit application, as he must collect the points required to qualify. Until that solution is secured, the agreement remains conditional rather than final.

The potential sale comes as Saint-Etienne lead Ligue 2 after four matches. Les Verts have won three of those games and were due to face Dijon on Monday night to complete the fourth round. The club also confirmed Aïmen Moueffek’s season-long loan to Cadiz, which includes an option to buy, as part of its late-window business.
