ASSE set to complete Lucas Stassin move to Sevilla

Lucas Stassin is nearing a move from ASSE to Sevilla after Saint-Etienne’s perfect start to the Ligue 2 season.

AS Saint-Etienne are preparing to complete Lucas Stassin’s transfer to Sevilla, allowing the Belgian forward to leave after previously wanting to move on. The 21-year-old had been unable to secure an exit from the French club last summer, but his departure is now expected to be finalised in the coming hours.

The agreement is structured as a loan worth €2.5 million. Sevilla will have a non-mandatory option to make the transfer permanent for €25 million. Saint-Etienne will also retain a 20% share of any profit generated by a later sale of the player.

Stassin’s move comes after two seasons in Saint-Etienne colours. He scored 23 times in 66 appearances for the club, featuring in both Ligue 1 and Ligue 2. His form earned him a Belgium call-up, and he made his international debut in March under Rudi Garcia. Images showed him arriving in Andalusia alongside Félix Correia, the Portuguese full-back from Lille.

The transfer changes the attacking options of a Saint-Etienne side that has opened its Ligue 2 campaign with four victories from four matches. The latest came away to Dijon on Monday, when the Greens won 3-2. Stassin therefore leaves while the club sits on a perfect early record, with the financial terms of the deal offering ASSE a possible long-term return if Sevilla later decide to sign him permanently or sell him on.
