Barcelona overwhelm Elche as Adeyemi scores first official goal

Barcelona strengthened their early position in LaLiga with a commanding win at Elche, while Karim Adeyemi marked his first official appearance for the club with a goal. The result also extended Barcelona’s recent control over this fixture after two victories against Elche last season.

The defending Spanish champions led when their captain converted a 14th-minute penalty awarded after a foul on Raphinha. Adeyemi doubled the advantage in first-half stoppage time after combining with Lamine Yamal and Raphinha. Raphinha then scored again in the 67th minute, supplied by Gordon, before Fermín López added a fourth four minutes later. López completed his brace in the 78th minute with a right-footed finish from outside the area. Elche struck the woodwork twice but could not change the outcome.

Elche remain listed 10th in the 2026 LaLiga standings with one point from one match and a 1-1 goal record. Their recent results had included draws with Al Ain, Johor Darul Ta'zim and Girona, plus wins over Kaizer Chiefs and Getafe, but the Barcelona defeat was a far heavier setback. Elche’s next league fixture is away to Racing Santander on August 28.
