Basketball Africa League renovates UGB hall in Saint-Louis
The BAL and partners have upgraded UGB’s basketball hall, creating a safer venue for students and young players.
Students and young players in Saint-Louis now have access to a refurbished basketball hall at Gaston Berger University, following an initiative led by the Basketball Africa League and its partners. The upgrade is intended to provide a safer, better-equipped place for sport in the community.
The renovated facility was inaugurated at the UGB campus. The project forms part of a wider BAL programme focused on improving local sports infrastructure and bringing organised sport closer to young people. Saint-Louis was selected as one of the programme’s first locations, reflecting its historical importance and its role in Senegal’s economic and energy development.
BAL president Amadou Gallo Fall welcomed the partnership and said community projects were an important part of the league’s wider mission. He linked the investment to the need for Senegal’s economic resources to create opportunities for young people, including through safe access to sport. Fall also praised UGB’s leadership for supporting infrastructure and community development.
The BAL, which runs Africa’s professional basketball championship and is now in its sixth year, plans to extend similar initiatives to other countries in the sub-region. The UGB hall is expected to serve both university students and young people from Saint-Louis, while supporting the development of future basketball players.
