Carlos Queiroz returns to lead Ghana’s Black Stars
Carlos Queiroz is back in charge of Ghana, with AFCON 2027 qualification now the national team’s priority.
Carlos Queiroz’s return gives Ghana an experienced coach to lead its attempt to restore the Black Stars to Africa’s top tournament. His immediate assignment is to rebuild the national team after Ghana missed the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and prepare a qualification campaign for the 2027 edition.
The Ghana Football Association confirmed on Wednesday that the Portuguese has officially resumed the role. Queiroz left the post two months ago after Ghana were eliminated by Colombia, losing 1-0 in the round of 32 at the World Cup. The federation did not disclose the length of his new contract.
Ghana’s football authorities pointed to Queiroz’s international experience, technical knowledge and familiarity with the Black Stars as the reasons for bringing him back. Those factors have returned him to a team that now needs a clear recovery after missing the most recent continental finals.
Queiroz will therefore begin a second spell with a defined objective: guide Ghana through the road to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. The return also places responsibility on him to reshape the squad and restore the national side’s place in the continental competition.
