Côte d’Ivoire lead winning start to CAN 2027 qualifiers

Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo opened their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaigns with victories on September 24. Tunisia were the main exception among the featured teams, drawing at home against Uganda and settling for one point.

Côte d’Ivoire beat Ghana 2-0, making the strongest statement of the evening among the listed results. Cameroon also took three points by defeating Comoros 3-1. Both winners now have the benefit of starting their qualifying campaigns with a victory, while Ghana and Comoros must respond in their next fixtures after losing their opening matches.

The Democratic Republic of Congo also began with a two-goal margin, overcoming Equatorial Guinea 2-0. The result placed DR Congo among the teams with a perfect start after the first round of matches, while Equatorial Guinea opened without a point. Group E also produced a close contest as Zimbabwe defeated Sierra Leone 3-2.

Tunisia could not use home advantage to claim the full reward against Uganda. Their 1-1 draw leaves both teams with a point from the opening round, keeping them level on the only result supplied for that fixture. The evening’s results therefore included three wins by two goals, one narrow victory and one draw as the 2027 qualifying campaign got underway.
