Côte d’Ivoire, Zimbabwe and Cameroon win CAN 2027 ties

Côte d’Ivoire, Zimbabwe and Cameroon made strong starts to their CAN 2027 qualifying campaigns, with victories in three of the day’s headline matches. Zimbabwe produced the most dramatic turnaround, recovering from a two-goal deficit in Sierra Leone to claim an away win.

Sierra Leone moved 2-0 ahead through Alieu Conte and Salieu Tarawallie, but the Warriors changed the match after half-time. Walter Munetsi scored twice, in the 72nd and 86th minutes, while Tawanda Chirewa added another four minutes after Munetsi’s first goal to complete the 3-2 comeback.

Côte d’Ivoire defeated Ghana 2-0 in the day’s major fixture. Malick Yalcouyé marked his international debut by putting the Elephants in front shortly before the interval, and Franck Kessié converted a penalty early in the second half to secure the result.

Cameroon also delivered at home, beating Comoros 3-1. David Nyengue and Bryan Mbeumo put the hosts in control before Warmed Omari reduced the gap for Comoros. Danilo Namaso restored Cameroon’s two-goal cushion in the closing stages. Tunisia drew 1-1 with Uganda in Group H after Adem Arous’ opener was cancelled out by Mato. Uganda are already assured of a place at the 2027 finals as one of the hosts, alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
