Doune Pathé Mbengue praises fair play at Cambérène final

The Cambérène zone 8A final marked a disciplined return to navétanes after nearly eight years of suspension.

The Zone 8A competition in Cambérène has completed its return to the navétanes calendar with a final marked by fair play, a point highlighted by sponsor Doune Pathé Mbengue. The mayor of Cambérène and director general of the Port of Dakar also used the occasion to reaffirm the importance of supporting local youth.

Deggo won the senior final against Jappo 1-0 at the municipal stadium in Parcelles Assainies, Dakar. The decisive goal came after half-time, while heavy rain brought the match to an early conclusion. In the cadet final, Diamaguène defeated Jappo by the same score to become the 2026 Zone 8A champion in that category.

The senior final began at 20:30, with Mbengue giving the opening kick-off in the presence of Zone 8A president Moussa Mbengue. He praised the players and neighbourhood teams for maintaining sporting discipline throughout the tournament, saying the event demonstrated the energy of Cambérène’s youth.

Zone 8A had been suspended for almost eight years before returning to the popular Senegalese competition. Its 2026 final was held before the start of the school year, and Mbengue said the renewed participation showed that young people must be treated as part of the country’s present, not only its future. He added that efforts should focus on bringing public policies closer to their needs.
