EuroLeague launches four-team Super Cup in September

Men’s European club basketball will gain a new season-opening trophy when the EuroLeague introduces its Super Cup in September. The competition will bring together four teams rather than two, giving the event a Final Four structure in Abu Dhabi.

The inaugural edition is scheduled for September 18 and 19. Olympiacos Piraeus, the latest EuroLeague champion, will face Fenerbahçe Tarfin Istanbul, the 2025 winner, in the first semi-final. Real Madrid, the 2026 edition’s runner-up, will then meet host representative Dubai Basketball. The third-place match and final will follow on Saturday.

The tournament will feature several French players. Olympiacos includes Evan Fournier, while Real Madrid’s squad includes Timothée Luwawu-Cabarrot, Olivier Sarr and Théo Maledon. Dubai has Élie Okobo and Mam Jaiteh, although Jaiteh’s participation depends on his recovery from an Achilles tendon rupture. Fenerbahçe has no French player in its listed squad.

Dubai’s place reflects its growing role in EuroLeague basketball. The city hosted the competition’s Final Four last year, and Dubai Basketball joined the EuroLeague for the 2025-26 season on a five-year licence. The club finished 11th in the regular season and won the Adriatic League against Partizan Belgrade. The next EuroLeague campaign starts on September 24, immediately after the Super Cup.
