FC Nantes in advanced talks over a €100 million sale

FC Nantes could soon change ownership, with Waldemar Kita in advanced discussions over a possible sale to a group of French and Portuguese investors. No agreement has been completed, but the negotiations have moved forward and could bring an end to Kita’s tenure at the club.

Former agent Paulo Tavares is acting as an intermediary in the talks. The potential buyers are understood to have considered an investment of between €30 million and €40 million, while Kita’s valuation is close to €95 million. The two sides could ultimately seek common ground around €100 million, a significant figure for a club currently competing in Ligue 2.

Kita bought Nantes in 2007 for €10 million. The club has won eight French league titles and lifted the Coupe de France in 2022, but it has not remained among the leading teams in recent seasons. Nantes has no debt, although its current sporting position weakens the case for a premium valuation.

After seven league rounds, Nantes sit 15th in Ligue 2. The club’s relegation this season and poor start provide the backdrop to the ownership talks, while its debt-free position and history remain central to the value being placed on a takeover.
