Felix Bacher sets sights on Lyon starting place
The Austrian defender wants to establish himself in Lyon’s starting XI after making a positive early impression.
Felix Bacher wants to secure a regular place in Olympique Lyonnais’ starting team after settling quickly at the club. The 25-year-old defender said his immediate priorities are to improve every day, strengthen his understanding with his teammates and help Lyon through his performances.
Bacher joined Lyon this summer after leaving Estoril and has already completed two full matches for his new side. He played the entire game against Toulouse before doing the same against Le Havre. He described his opening weeks as positive and said the welcome from the club had made the move an enjoyable experience.
The Austria defender presented himself to the French media for the first time on Thursday and outlined the qualities he wants to bring to the team. He identified his passing, defensive work and communication as key strengths, while acknowledging that his leadership at centre-back still needs to develop. He also stressed his ability to defend space behind the back line, saying anticipation and positioning can reduce the need for recovery runs.
Bacher said discussions with the coaching staff gave him confidence in Lyon’s project before he arrived. His next objective is to turn those encouraging first appearances into a sustained role in the starting XI, with daily work and stronger connections across the defence forming part of that process.
