Grégory Alldritt accepts France setback and targets return

Grégory Alldritt admits he is behind in France’s plans and will answer with stronger performances for La Rochelle.

Grégory Alldritt has conceded that he is currently behind in the France selection race, with his immediate priority now to rebuild his standing at La Rochelle. His comments come as coach Fabien Galthié prepares to outline his plans for the second phase of the Nations Championship.

The third-row forward spoke after La Rochelle defeated Clermont in the fifth round of the Top 14 on Saturday. Alldritt has not played for France since the victory over Australia on November 22. He had previously been an established starter during France’s Six Nations triumph, but was not included during the latest edition, also won by Les Bleus, or in the opening phase of the Nations Championship.

Alldritt believes strong performances for La Rochelle are the clearest route back into the national side. Rather than dwelling on the next Six Nations, he wants the club to regain its status as a leading team and to raise his own level alongside it. He also said he does not intend to rush the process or allow uncertainty over France to affect his sleep and preparation.

With competition expected to be intense for selection for Australia in less than a year, Alldritt is keeping the 2027 World Cup as a longer-term objective. He accepts that circumstances can change significantly over the coming year, but intends to let his performances shape the next decision.
