Guéla Doué emerges as surprise Leverkusen target

Bayer Leverkusen are monitoring Strasbourg defender Guéla Doué, but the French club want at least €40m.

Guéla Doué has become a summer target for Bayer Leverkusen, although Strasbourg are not prepared to consider a departure at the German club’s current level of interest. The French side would demand at least €40 million for the Ivory Coast defender, making any transfer dependent on Leverkusen meeting that valuation.

Doué’s situation comes after a difficult first appearance of the season. He played a part in Marseille’s opening two goals during Strasbourg’s 4-0 defeat on Friday, a result that marked a damaging start to the campaign for the Alsace club.

Despite that display, Doué remains an important member of Strasbourg’s squad. His value to the team has increased in a summer marked by several significant departures, including those of Penders, Emegha, Moreira and Barco. Strasbourg therefore face a decision over whether to retain a key player or entertain a major offer.

Leverkusen are attracted by Doué’s profile and have placed him on their list for the summer window. The 21-year-old is also the older brother of Désiré Doué, adding to the attention around a possible move, but no agreement has been reached and Strasbourg’s asking price currently stands as the main obstacle.
