Idi Nabagawa wins Zinder administrator’s wrestling cup

Idi Nabagawa of Tanout won Zinder’s inaugural traditional wrestling cup and secured a place among regional contenders.

Idi Nabagawa’s victory for Tanout has put him forward as one of the wrestlers the Zinder region can consider for its next national campaign. He won the inaugural Coupe de l’Administrateur délégué de la Ville de Zinder, a competition designed to identify the region’s strongest representatives for the 47th Sabre National, which will be held in Zinder in four months.

The tournament brought together 30 wrestlers from the region’s 10 departments over three days. Four unbeaten competitors reached the semi-finals. Nabagawa first defeated Rabiou Abdou Kan Koura of Zinder, while Abdourahamane Rabe Dan Gwati of Kantché overcame Saïdou Harouna of Doungass. Nabagawa then beat Dan Gwati in the final. Kan Koura took third place after defeating Harouna in the classification bout.

The champion received a trophy, a Kasea motorcycle and 50,000 CFA francs for fuel from Zinder Governor Colonel Massalatchi Mahaman Sani. Dan Gwati collected 200,000 CFA francs as runner-up, while Kan Koura and Harouna received 150,000 and 100,000 CFA francs respectively. The event also included participation prizes for the other 26 wrestlers and contributions to the Fonds de Solidarité pour la Sauvegarde de la Patrie. Organisers plan further competitions to prepare Zinder’s wrestlers for the national contest.
