James Eto’o wins Bulgarian Super Cup with CSKA Sofia

James Eto’o has opened his season with a major honour after helping CSKA Sofia secure the Bulgarian Super Cup. The Cameroon international started in midfield as CSKA claimed the trophy against Levski Sofia, adding the title to his honours list.

CSKA overturned a 2-1 deficit to win 4-2. Levski went ahead in the 40th minute, but Joel Zwarts equalised four minutes after the restart. Stefano Sensi then put CSKA in front from the penalty spot before Zwarts completed his double. An own goal by Neves made it 4-1 in the 89th minute, while Bala scored Levski’s second in added time.

Eto’o operated in the midfield structure chosen by coach Hristo Yanev and produced a strong performance as CSKA took control after the interval. The victory gives the club the first piece of silverware in the new campaign. Levski entered the match as Bulgarian league champions, while CSKA qualified as the Bulgarian Cup winners.

The medal provides an early reward for Eto’o, who was not selected by David Pagou. His starting role in Sofia allowed him to contribute directly to CSKA’s success in a fixture between the country’s league and cup holders.
