Jérôme Rothen takes on a new Liga commentary role

Jérôme Rothen will join DAZN’s Liga coverage, moving from heated debate shows to live match analysis.

Jérôme Rothen is taking on a markedly different role this season, joining DAZN’s coverage of La Liga. The former Paris Saint-Germain player is best known for his direct opinions and lively exchanges on “Rothen s’enflamme”, but his new assignment will place him closer to live football analysis.

DAZN, which holds La Liga rights jointly with Disney+, has chosen Rothen to commentate on selected Spanish league fixtures. He will work alongside journalists Adrien Courouble, Eric Huet and Hamza Rahmani. Former players Benoît Trémoulinas, Claude Makelele and Samuel Umtiti are also part of the channel’s wider team.

The move shifts Rothen from defending positions in a debate to explaining events as they unfold. His work on matches involving Real Madrid, Barcelona and other major Spanish fixtures will require attention to tactical patterns, coaching decisions and key situations during play. That gives his playing background a more central place in his television work.

Rothen’s personality remains part of his profile, but the Liga assignment offers a different on-air setting. Viewers who mainly associate him with forceful arguments will see him operating in a more measured and technical format. The role broadens his media work while giving DAZN a recognisable voice for its Spanish football coverage.
