Johann Zarco cleared to return at Aragon MotoGP

Johann Zarco has been cleared to ride in Aragon after a left-knee injury, but must pass a second medical check.

Johann Zarco has received medical clearance to begin the Aragon Grand Prix, marking his return after a serious crash at the Catalan Grand Prix. The Honda rider will take part in the opening free-practice session, although his participation beyond that session will depend on another medical assessment.

Zarco, 36, suffered several torn ligaments in his left knee and a deep burn in the May 17 accident. He avoided surgery after some of the damaged ligaments recovered without an operation. The first laps at MotorLand will provide an early indication of whether the knee can cope with the demands of a MotoGP weekend.

The Frenchman remains uncertain about how the injury will respond in long left-hand corners, where the leg must sustain pressure for an extended period. Vibrations and impacts can also cause discomfort, while a further crash could worsen the damage and delay his full recovery. He has described the leg as not yet fully restored, even though it currently allows him to ride.

Zarco already has a Honda contract for next season, reducing the immediate pressure surrounding his return. His priority in Aragon is therefore to assess his physical response and determine whether he can continue after the first session.
