Julián Alvarez: Atlético set €150m sale condition

Atlético de Madrid would consider selling Julián Alvarez if an offer reaches €150 million, despite his €120m valuation.

Atlético de Madrid would consider selling Julián Alvarez if a late transfer offer reaches €150 million. The club has not entirely closed the door on his departure, but Barcelona is not viewed as an option. Arsenal could return with another approach for the Argentina international before the window closes.

The issue has become more urgent after Alvarez’s treatment during Atlético’s 2-2 home draw with Villarreal. Supporters jeered and insulted the centre-forward at the Metropolitano, and he left the pitch for the dressing room alone while the whistles continued. The reaction followed his reported interest in leaving, adding to the uncertainty surrounding his position at the club.

Alvarez, 26, remains under contract with Atlético after joining from Manchester City in the 2024-25 season. The Madrid club paid €75 million for the move, while his current market value is listed at €120 million. The reported €150 million threshold would therefore stand €30 million above that valuation and represent a significant increase on Atlético’s initial outlay.

His transfer history also includes moves between River Plate and Manchester City. River Plate sold him to City for €21.4 million in the 2021-22 season, before he returned to Argentina temporarily in the same campaign. Atlético’s position means a departure is possible, but only if a suitor meets a demanding price. Alvarez has also had ankle sprain and ankle problem entries in his injury history.
