Julián Alvarez transfer to Atlético Madrid validated

Julián Alvarez’s transfer from Manchester City to Atlético Madrid has been validated, confirming the Argentine forward’s place at the Spanish club. The move is listed for the 2024/25 season and came after his spell at City, which followed his transfer from River Plate.

Atlético paid €75 million for the 26-year-old, who is eligible to represent Argentina and Italy. Alvarez is valued at €120 million and remains registered as an Atlético player. His recorded injury history includes an ankle sprain and other ankle problems.

The confirmation comes as Alvarez’s future has become uncertain in Madrid. Barcelona have shown interest in signing him, while the player has also wanted a move to the Catalan club. Atlético have rejected the prospect of selling him to a direct Liga rival, closing the route to Barcelona for now.

That stance has increased tension around Alvarez, with Atlético supporters unhappy that he has made his desire to leave public. Arsenal have also expressed interest, and Alvarez is considering that option. No Arsenal offer has been recorded, but the English club represents an alternative after Atlético blocked a Barcelona transfer.
