Karim Benzema leaves Al-Hilal after six months

Karim Benzema has ended his Al-Hilal contract by mutual agreement after six months, leaving his next move undecided.

Karim Benzema’s short spell at Al-Hilal is over, leaving the 38-year-old forward to decide whether to pursue another opportunity or end his playing career. The Saudi club confirmed that both sides had agreed to terminate their contract on Monday, 31 August.

The 2022 Ballon d’Or winner joined Al-Hilal after leaving Al-Ittihad, where he had been involved in a dispute over his future. He made an immediate impact for his new team, scoring three times in a 6-0 victory against Al-Okhdoud on his debut. His stay, however, lasted only six months.

Benzema remains tied to the Saudi Pro League as an ambassador until 2030. His next sporting move has not been settled, with several possibilities available to him. Retirement has also emerged as a possibility, although he has previously indicated that he wanted to continue playing at a high level and was still considering his career options.

The departure marks another change in the French striker’s Saudi career. He moved to the kingdom in the summer of 2023 to join Al-Ittihad before switching to their league rival after terminating that contract. Al-Hilal thanked him for his contribution, professionalism and leadership while wishing him success beyond the club.
