Karim Benzema set to leave Al-Hilal, retirement ruled out

Karim Benzema is nearing an Al-Hilal exit, but the 38-year-old forward intends to continue his career.

Karim Benzema is close to leaving Al-Hilal, but the move is not expected to end his playing career. The 38-year-old France forward has yet to decide where he will play next, with several offers reportedly available.

A return to Al-Ittihad, the club he joined after leaving Real Madrid in 2023, is one possibility. Al-Shabab has also emerged as a potential destination, meaning Benzema could remain in Saudi Arabia rather than seek a move elsewhere.

Benzema moved to Al-Hilal in February after leaving Al-Ittihad following a dispute over his contract extension. He agreed to stay with Al-Hilal until June 2027, but that arrangement now appears uncertain. Earlier this month, he had dismissed talk of a departure after a match against Al-Feiha, saying he would remain with the team.

The change in the situation is linked to Al-Hilal’s expected signing of Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli. A verbal agreement is reportedly in place for the Brazilian, with the transfer valued at between €65 million and €70 million. Benzema’s next club remains undecided, while retirement is not part of his current plans.
