Kily González takes charge of Inter Miami until 2028

Inter Miami have appointed Kily González as their new head coach following Javier Macherano’s departure and Guillermo Hoyos’ interim spell. The 52-year-old Argentine has arrived in South Florida and is set to assume control of the first team once the required administrative procedures are completed. His appointment gives the club a permanent coach ahead of its next competitive assignment.

González has signed a contract that runs until June 2028. He is due to oversee his first training session as Inter Miami prepare to meet Mexican side Cruz Azul on Wednesday evening in the Campeones Cup. The match will be González’s first fixture in charge and comes with the competition’s title at stake.

The former left winger built his playing reputation at Valencia, helping the Spanish club reach the Champions League final in 2000 and 2001. He then continued his career with Inter before returning to Argentina and finishing his playing days at Rosario Central in 2011. González moved into coaching in 2020, beginning with Rosario Central, and later managed CA Union and Platense, whom he led last year.

His move to Miami marks the latest stage of a coaching career that has so far remained in Argentina. González now takes charge of an Inter Miami side preparing for a match against Cruz Azul, with the long-term contract placing him at the centre of the club’s first-team plans through the end of June 2028.
