Kyrian Jacquet reaches Hangzhou quarter-finals, Top 100

Kyrian Jacquet is set to enter the ATP top 100 for the first time after reaching the quarter-finals of the Hangzhou ATP 250. The milestone follows a strong week for the 25-year-old Frenchman, who arrived in China ranked 107th in the world and had recently gone out in the second round of US Open qualifying.

Jacquet defeated Tomas Etcheverry, the world number 30 and third seed, 6-2, 6-3 in one hour and 32 minutes. He took control early by breaking in the opening game and led 3-0. After Etcheverry pulled ahead 3-2 in the second set, Jacquet immediately levelled and broke again at 4-3 before serving out the match. He hit seven aces and surrendered just one service break.

The Lyon player had already beaten Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic in the opening round after entering the main draw directly. This is his second ATP quarter-final, following his run in Metz last year. His progress means France has another player moving into the top 100 after Arthur Gea and Titouan Droguet achieved the same feat in recent weeks.

Jacquet, coached by former world number 50 Stephane Robert, will face either Fabian Marozsan, ranked 59th, or Taro Daniel, ranked 193rd. He has only 157 points to defend for the remainder of the season, giving him room to improve on his new position.
