La Gantoise edge Bruges as Cissé scores then sees red

Ibrahima Cissé scored Gent's winner against Bruges before a late second yellow, leaving both clubs on nine points.

La Gantoise have drawn level with Club Bruges on nine points after winning the fourth-round meeting between the two Flemish rivals. The result gives Gent the regional bragging rights and keeps both sides together in the Jupiler Pro League standings.

Gent prevailed 2-1, with Vergara opening the scoring after 30 minutes. Club Bruges restored parity five minutes later through Hans Vanaken, sending the teams into the interval level. The decisive moment came in the 82nd minute, when Ibrahima Cissé put La Gantoise back in front.

The 18-year-old Senegalese attacker began the match on the bench but became central to an eventful evening. Gent had gained a numerical advantage after Carlos Forbs was dismissed, and Cissé capitalised by scoring the winning goal. He then received a second yellow card late in the match and was sent off.

Despite finishing with 10 men, La Gantoise held on to secure the victory. The three points lift them to the same total as Club Bruges, while Cissé’s goal settles the latest edition of the “Battle of Flanders” and remains the defining moment of a night that ended with both teams separated only by their position in the table.
