Le Mans open talks with Guingamp over Erwan Colas
Le Mans are in talks with Guingamp over Erwan Colas as competition for places increases in the promoted squad.
Le Mans are discussing Erwan Colas’s departure with Guingamp, with the two clubs making positive progress on a possible move. The talks concern the 29-year-old forward, who recently extended his contract with the Sarthe club through 2029. Any agreement would end a spell in which Colas helped Le Mans secure a historic return to the top flight.
Colas scored six goals and supplied two assists in Ligue 2 last season. His place in the squad is now less certain because Le Mans have several options in attack, including Louis Mafouta, Antoine Rabillard, Dame Gueye, William Harhouz and Brazilian recruit Enzo Vagner. Gueye is expected to remain in Sarthe, adding to the competition for minutes.
Le Mans are therefore open to a departure before the transfer window closes, while Guingamp have emerged as the club pursuing the forward. The potential deal also links two clubs that already worked together on Mafouta’s move to Le Mans this summer.
Guingamp’s interest is supported by the relationship between coach Sylvain Ripoll and Benjamin Genton, his assistant. Genton knows Colas from their time at Lorient, where the forward played for the reserve side during the 2022-23 season. That connection could help the discussions as the clubs continue negotiations.
