Lille resist Fernandez-Pardo exit after transfer standoff

Matias Fernandez-Pardo’s expected departure from Lille has lost momentum, with the club refusing to open the door to a late summer transfer. The 21-year-old Belgium international had appeared headed for a break with the northern French side after a tense pre-season episode, but Lille’s position has remained firm despite interest from Germany.

RB Leipzig offered €35 million, including bonuses, for the forward, but Lille turned down the proposal. Sporting director Sylvain Armand then made the club’s stance clear after the opening fixture at Angers, saying a transfer was not currently on the agenda. Fernandez-Pardo is under contract until 2029, while a €70 million valuation has circulated as a figure designed to deter potential suitors rather than signal active negotiations.

The uncertainty followed Fernandez-Pardo’s refusal to come on during the pre-season meeting with Everton. That decision was viewed as a challenge to coach Davide Ancelotti’s authority and intensified questions about the player’s future. For now, however, Lille are holding onto him while their attacking options are already limited.

The club’s financial position also gives it room to resist pressure. Lille have already received €100 million from Ayyoub Bouaddi’s move to Manchester City, reducing the need to accept Leipzig’s offer before the September 1 deadline.
