Lille win at Toulouse as Özer stars and Ueda scores
Lille beat Toulouse through Ayase Ueda’s first goal for the club, with goalkeeper Özer decisive throughout.
Lille left Toulouse with the points after Ayase Ueda settled a match dominated for long periods by the hosts. The result gave the visitors a major lift, while Toulouse were punished for failing to turn their pressure into goals. Goalkeeper Özer was central to Lille’s success, repeatedly denying the home side.
Ueda, signed from Japan, scored on his Lille debut in the 73rd minute. The goal came after Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes was forced off and replaced by Mathys Niflore, who was making his first Ligue 1 appearance. Lille’s defensive work and Özer’s saves then protected the lead until the final whistle.
Toulouse had several clear opportunities before the interval. Özer stopped efforts from Hidalgo and Russell-Rowe, saved another Hidalgo attempt from close range and used his foot to block a shot by Casseres. Toulouse also struck the crossbar early in the match, but their lack of finishing proved costly.
The defeat leaves Toulouse 15th in the 2026 Ligue 1 standings, with no points from their opening match and a 0-2 goal record. Their recent sequence had included two wins and two draws alongside a loss at Lens, but the failure to score against Lille extends their difficulties in the league. Toulouse’s next fixture is away to Lorient on September 12.
