Loïs Boisson abandons in Philadelphia with US Open in doubt

Loïs Boisson’s final preparation for the US Open has been disrupted after she withdrew from her opening match in Philadelphia with an ankle problem. The French player’s participation at Flushing Meadows is now uncertain, although her team has described the decision as precautionary rather than definitive.

Boisson stopped against American Capucine Jauffret in the first round of the WTA 125 event after twisting her ankle. She was already trailing 6-1 when she consulted the medical staff and ended the match. The tournament begins six days before the US Open main draw, leaving limited time for the swelling and pain to settle.

The setback interrupts a promising American swing in which Boisson had produced encouraging performances in Montreal and Cincinnati. The Dijon player had entered Philadelphia seeking additional match rhythm before the year’s final Grand Slam, but continuing could have placed greater stress on the joint and harmed her chances of reaching New York.

Further examinations are planned to assess the ankle ligaments and rule out a serious injury. Her immediate care is expected to centre on rest, ice treatment and physiotherapy, followed by a gradual return to training if the tests show only a minor sprain.
