Loïs Boisson faces early US Open exit after rain delay

Loïs Boisson is one set down and trailing in the second when rain halts her US Open opener.

Loïs Boisson’s US Open campaign is under immediate threat after rain halted her opening-round match in New York. The interruption leaves the Frenchwoman needing a strong return to the court to avoid another early setback at a tournament where she arrived seeking to build on signs of improvement this summer.

Boisson was trailing 7-6, 4-2 against the 26th seed when play stopped. She had made a quick start by breaking twice for a 3-1 advantage, but was pegged back at 3-3 before losing the first-set tie-break 8-6. The match will resume with the second set still unfinished.

The situation is a difficult one for a player now ranked 237th in the world, despite reaching the French Open semi-finals in 2025. Boisson had travelled to New York with renewed confidence after recovering some consistency in recent weeks and said she needed a run of matches across tournaments to rebuild her rhythm.

Her preparation had also included a brief pause after she twisted her left ankle two days before a match the previous week. She described the problem as minor and said the rest was intended to ensure she was fully ready for the American hard-court major. That work has so far produced a competitive opening, but not yet the result needed to secure a second-round place.
