Malick Daf says Senegal U20 will grow in strength

Senegal U20 coach Malick Daf says his new group will improve after beating DR Congo in preparation for the UFOA-A.

Malick Daf expects Senegal’s U20 team to improve steadily after its first match under a newly assembled group. The coach said the performance showed encouraging qualities, while acknowledging that several players still need to build their rhythm before the main competition.

Senegal defeated DR Congo 2-1 at the Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium on Thursday. Daf considered the result deserved and praised his players for their discipline and strength against a technically capable Congolese side. He also identified areas that require quick correction before the teams meet again on Sunday, October 4, at the same venue.

The next steps are aimed at the UFOA-A U20 tournament in Mali, where Senegal will defend its title. The Lionceaux have been drawn with Mauritania, Sierra Leone and Guinea-Bissau. Daf said the team must approach every group match seriously and use the remaining preparation to gain confidence and greater efficiency. The delayed start to the domestic championship has limited the competition time of some players, but he does not view that as an excuse and expects the squad to adapt.

Daf will also have to manage his duties with Teungueth FC, who are scheduled to play in the second preliminary round of the African Champions League during the tournament period. He plans to travel between the two teams and rely on his staff’s preparation while Senegal pursues another title.
