Saint-Louis opens the Army-Nation football field
New Saint-Louis facility will serve military training while giving local young people a place to play football.
Saint-Louis now has a football facility intended to support military fitness while providing local young people with a place to play. The Army-Nation field was inaugurated on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, as part of an effort to bring the armed forces closer to the city’s population.
The ceremony was led by Saint-Louis Governor Al Hassane Sall and Colonel Alioune Samassa, commander of Military Zone No. 2. Built by the armed forces, the facility is designed for military training but will also host civilian users, including young people from the city. Its opening gives the Army-Nation concept a practical sporting base in Saint-Louis.
The field is expected to accommodate training sessions, football matches, youth activities and other initiatives encouraging regular participation in sport. Its role goes beyond access to a playing surface: the project is also intended to promote discipline, solidarity, respect for rules and fair play through shared activity.
The authorities placed responsibility for the site’s future on its users. The field is to be kept clean and secure, while violence is prohibited. Its success will therefore depend on preserving the facility as a safe space for military personnel and young residents, and as a place where sport can support cohesion between the armed forces and the wider community.
