Michael Olise draws criticism after Bayern award interview

Michael Olise’s performance for Bayern Munich ended with individual recognition, but his appearance in front of the cameras drew attention for a different reason. The France international collected the man-of-the-match award before giving short, restrained answers that left the interviewer struggling to develop the conversation.

Olise had scored twice and provided an assist as Bayern defeated Bodø/Glimt 5-0 on Thursday in the opening round of the Champions League league phase. The result gave the Bavarian club a strong start to its European campaign, while Olise’s contribution made him the central figure of the night on the pitch.

Away from the action, however, the 17-year-old’s answers remained limited to basic comments about the victory, his goal and the fact that other Bayern players also score. The journalist ended the exchange by acknowledging how difficult it had been and wishing Olise enjoyment of his award.

The London-born winger is known as a shy, private and introverted personality. Former teachers and coaches in England have said those characteristics were already evident during his youth. His quiet manner has therefore become a familiar part of his public image, even after one of his most productive performances for Bayern.
