Mouhamadou Gueye joins Senegal ahead of FIBA 2027 qualifiers

Mouhamadou Gueye has arrived in Dakar for his first Senegal call-up, completing Desagana Diop’s squad before Thursday’s opener.

Mouhamadou Gueye has joined Senegal’s preparations for the fourth window of the FIBA 2027 World Cup qualifiers, completing coach Desagana Diop’s group in Dakar. The call-up is Gueye’s first with the national team, but his late arrival gives him little time to secure a place in the final selection.

Gueye arrived in Dakar during the night between Sunday and Monday after recently joining Valencia. He was the final player expected in camp after the team had worked through several sessions with 16 players. His previous experience includes time with the Windy City Bulls and the Chicago Bulls in the NBA.

Senegal’s opening game in this qualifying window is against Egypt on Thursday, August 27, at Dakar Arena. Diop must confirm his final group by the day of that match, leaving Gueye only a short preparation period to learn the team’s work and demonstrate that he merits selection.

The new arrival therefore completes Senegal’s camp without resolving the selection question. Gueye has entered a group that has already trained together, and the immediate task is to adapt quickly before the deadline set by the first game. His inclusion in the final list will depend on the impression he makes during the remaining sessions.
