Niaogho citizen watch uses football to build unity

The citizen-watch group in Niaogho is using football to deepen social cohesion between the town and neighbouring communities. Its communal tournament has become a key local activity, combining sporting competition with an opportunity for residents and young people to meet in a positive setting.

The latest fixture was played on 8 September 2026 at Niaogho’s communal ground, with Sabtenga of Niaogho facing Koassagou from Garango. The teams drew 1-1 in a match characterised by fair play and a friendly atmosphere. Faloukou Bancé scored for Koassagou, while Zoumba found the net for Sabtenga.

Kadré Compaoré, who leads Niaogho’s citizen-watch group, said the tournament was created to promote sport and strengthen unity between Niaogho and surrounding communes. He also said the competition had become one of the community’s main activities and was particularly appreciated by young people.

The draw left neither team with a winner, but the organisers’ wider objective was achieved through the meeting itself. Players and supporters from Niaogho and Garango shared the occasion before departing in a positive mood. The tournament therefore serves as a local platform for maintaining contact and cooperation between communities, with football providing the structure for that exchange.
