OM face threat of losing Igor Paixao to Sunderland

Olympique de Marseille are facing the possibility of losing Igor Paixao at a critical point in their preparations for the new season. The Brazilian winger, who had previously indicated that he wanted to remain with the club, has become more open to a move as Sunderland intensify their pursuit.

Paixao’s value to Marseille is clear after a season that produced 12 goals and eight assists. The 26-year-old is attracted by the prospect of playing in the Premier League, which he believes could improve his chances of earning a Brazil call-up. Aston Villa and several Saudi Arabian clubs are also interested, but Sunderland have made the strongest push and have placed an offer worth €30 million before the transfer window closes.

The situation became more uncertain when Paixao missed Marseille’s team training on Tuesday afternoon. The absence has not been officially connected to the transfer discussions, but it has increased concern that the deal may be moving closer. Marseille’s American ownership and financial leadership see the proposal differently.
