Paulo Dybala accepts major pay cut to stay at Roma

Paulo Dybala has chosen to remain with AS Roma, signing a one-year extension after accepting a substantial reduction in his fixed pay. The agreement keeps the Argentina forward at the Italian club while making a significant part of his earnings dependent on his involvement and production.

Dybala’s net fixed salary will fall from €8 million to €2.2 million. The contract includes bonuses linked to goals, assists and appearances, creating a route for him to recover his position as Roma’s highest-paid player if he can maintain regular participation. Each appearance lasting more than 45 minutes is worth a €100,000 payment.

The new structure follows a difficult previous season for the 30-year-old. He suffered a thigh tear after taking a free-kick against Torino and later damaged his hamstring while taking a penalty against Milan. A knee problem that was not adequately resolved by the medical staff eventually required surgery in March, after conservative treatment failed.

Following prolonged negotiations, Dybala has therefore prioritised continuity at Roma over the security of his previous fixed salary. His revised deal places greater weight on staying available and contributing consistently, with performances and playing time now central to the value of the agreement.
