Premier League: Four teams lead after second round
Arsenal joined Manchester City, Hull City and Chelsea at the top, while five teams remain without a point.
The Premier League has an early four-way lead after two rounds, while five clubs are still waiting for their first point. The group at the bottom includes Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace, Coventry City and Fulham, all of whom have lost both matches.
Arsenal reached six points by defeating Aston Villa 1-0, with Bukayo Saka scoring the only goal in the 59th minute. Manchester City also have six points and occupy first place on the goals tiebreaker, with six goals scored and two conceded. Arsenal have scored four and kept two clean sheets. Hull City are also unbeaten without conceding, while Chelsea have six points after scoring seven goals and allowing five.
Brentford, Newcastle United, Everton and Leeds United sit from fifth to eighth on four points, each with one win and one draw. Brighton, Manchester United, Sunderland and Ipswich Town follow on three points after recording one victory and one defeat. Liverpool are 13th with two draws, leaving them below the early leaders despite remaining unbeaten.
Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest have one point each from a defeat and a draw. Villa’s position is particularly difficult after two losses without scoring, as the club continues rebuilding following the departure of several players involved in its Europa League triumph. The transfer window closes on Tuesday, giving Villa limited time to strengthen.
