Randal Kolo Muani’s return to Juventus has started with a setback, increasing the pressure on a forward already outside France’s plans. The 27-year-old was unable to make an impact in his first Serie A appearance of the season and now faces a difficult route back into the national team, with the Zidane angle adding to the scrutiny around his future.

Kolo Muani started against Frosinone but produced an untidy display and missed a major chance. Juventus still secured a narrow 1-0 victory in its league opener, though the France international was not decisive in a match the club was expected to control. Coach Luciano Spalletti also questioned the player’s lack of regular football over the past two years.

The former Nantes player returned to Juventus this summer after an initially successful first spell and completed a permanent move from Paris Saint-Germain. His latest performance comes after he was left out of Didier Deschamps’ squad for the World Cup in America, ending a three-year period in which he had remained part of the former France coach’s plans.

Kolo Muani must now regain influence and scoring efficiency to reopen the national-team door. Competition is intense, with players yet to receive a France call-up, including Rennes forward Esteban Lepaul, viewed as having stronger standing with Zidane.
