Reims claim first Ligue 2 win and rise to fifth

Stade de Reims have secured their first Ligue 2 victory of the season, moving up to fifth place after three matches. The result ends an opening sequence of two draws and gives Reims a first win in their campaign. Annecy, meanwhile, have dropped to fourth after suffering their first defeat.

Reims came from behind to beat Annecy 3-1 on Monday, in the final fixture of the third round. Matteo Veillon put the visitors in front in the 32nd minute, giving Annecy a lead they carried into half-time. The home side restored parity eight minutes after the break when Annecy goalkeeper Florian Escales conceded an own goal.

The turnaround continued in the second half. Chamsedin Kouranfal completed Reims’ recovery in the 64th minute, putting the hosts ahead for the first time. Quentin Paris added a third goal four minutes later to settle the contest and complete the scoring.

The victory changes the early shape of both teams’ seasons. Reims had drawn away to Clermont and at home against Dunkerque in their opening two matches, leaving them without a win before Monday. Annecy had started with victories in both of their first two games, but the loss at Reims means they now occupy fourth place, one position below their opponents.
